The Paris Tikka Mahon Memorial Transition Fund

TRANCE Consulting is a Black trans-led advocacy, education, and healing justice initiative based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We focus on intersectional movement building, strategic storytelling, and removing systemic barriers that harm the lives of Black trans and QTPOC communities. Founded by Elle Halo in honor of the late Paris Tikka Mahon, our work honors the six Black trans women and femmes murdered in Milwaukee in recent years by responding with urgency, advocacy, and healing justice. Through The Paris Tikka Mahon Memorial Transition Fund, we provide resource navigation, capacity-building support, gender-affirming advocacy, and direct services such as facial laser hair removal for Black trans women—often a critical, life-affirming service inaccessible due to systemic violence and marginalization.

Prior to the murder of Brazil Johnson there had not been a black trans woman murdered in Milwaukee in ten years While our girls still faced inexcusable violence I know that we can get back to a place in Milwaukee where it is not rapidly occurring. There is also a fentanyl crisis impacting this community.

The future of the transition fund looks like a memorial garden, support and funds for gender affirming care procedures and surgery's, sexual assault prevention, and leadership development programs we want to address the socialization of trans women, violence, and how to build generational wealth in the QTPOC community.

Our four-tiered approach reflects the many ways our community must be held. We offer healing and wellness access by removing barriers to care, peer-led navigation, and affirming services. We amplify our voices through creative expression and public narrative change—uplifting Black trans artists and storytellers through showcases, mentorship, and digital media. We archive our memory and lived experience through oral history and cultural preservation, making sure our truth is never erased. And we invest in our future by equipping community members with the tools, training, and confidence to lead—from grant literacy and campaign building to digital storytelling and facilitation.

Milwaukee has not always been a safe place for Black trans women, but we believe it can become one again. Prior to the murder of Brazil Johnson, our city had not lost a Black trans woman to violence in over a decade. We know we can return to a time when this was not normal—when we were not memorializing our sisters every season. The work we do now through TRANCE Consulting is about prevention and sustainability. We dream of a future where a memorial garden blooms in their honor, where gender-affirming surgeries are accessible without shame, and where sexual health, reproductive justice, and leadership development are part of our everyday lives—not just our survival.
